Caltech Medieval and Renaissance Society
Also known as the College of the Voyagers

Last Update on September 28, 2011.

Welcome to the new Caltech students!

The Caltech Medieval and Renaissance Society is a campus club dedicated to researching and reenacting the middle ages. We are also known as the College of the Voyagers within the Society for Creative Anachronism, which is also known as the SCA.

What do we do?

We recreate many aspects of the Middle Ages. The focus is on late medieval Europe, but can include any culture that had contact with Europe in any time prior to 1600.

Arts and sciences play a big role and give you a chance to indulge your creativity. Weaving, sewing, calligraphy, cooking, brewing, blacksmithing, jewelry making, pottery making, and musical performance are just a few of the activities available. We are working on getting some activities going on the campus, starting with blacksmithing.

The martial arts are also recreated, although we do it in a non-lethal way. Anyone interested in fighting can try heavy fighting (the broadsword and shield type of fighting most associated with the middle ages), rapier, or even siege weapons.

Who are we?

We are a group of students and staff from the Caltech community. Our club is currently inactive, but we're planning to reactivate during the Fall 2011 term.
